Celebrity is a strange thing. Nadya Suleman became one because she had octuplets while already having six children. Tabloids are inundated with stories about Jon & Kate, who are famous only for having eight children and a reality show. And don’t get me started on Spencer Pratt and Heidi Pratt… who are famous for being shallow on the Hills, and have somehow convinced themselves they’re megastars.

At least Nadya Suleman realizes that being the mother of 14 is difficult and that she might have made a mistake. Speidi (I refuse to keep typing their names) just keep trying ploy after ploy to prove that they’re famous. Newsflash: If you have to keep making stunt after stunt to try to keep your name in the news, you aren’t even remotely near the D-list.

Frankly, I’ve never watched Jon & Kate Plus 8. I didn’t have cable for awhile, and had never even heard of their show. And now, from what I’ve read, I wouldn’t remotely enjoy what it’s turned into. Two distant partners trying to lead their own lives while apparently raising their children. And all while trying to get as many freebies as possible.

I’m just going to join those who urge them to stop the show and focus on their family. A crumbling marriage being documented on television is hardly what’s best for the kids, and really… they should come first.

Granted, that’s a pet peeve of mine- parents who put their own lives ahead of their children’s lives. I’m not saying that you should devote the mathematically impossible 110% of your life to being Mom or Dad, but at least placing their needs ahead of your wants is a good thing. Having had friends from high school with absentee parents, and seeing what that did… it’s helped me see just how necessary it is to find that balance. (And how lucky I was)
