Today is Reed's second birthday. Hard to believe that two years ago, right now, I was in a hospital bed cradling an impossibly tiny baby and marveling at how quickly he came. (We still joke that if I decide to have a third, I'll have to just stay within 15 minutes of the hospital for the last two weeks of my pregnancy to keep from having a baby born on the floor of our house)
Yesterday was supposed to be his birthday party- but I woke up massively sick, and so my wonderful in-laws and husband delayed it a week. Not only that, they watched the boys all day so that I could sleep and veg undisturbed.
Today, I was supposed to go to Disneyland with my parents and the boys- but understandably, we called that off. And good thing! I'm still tired, my parents are drained (more on that in a bit) and it was cold and wanting to rain.
This past weekend was my mom's dog club's annual dog show. So, she and my dad were super busy. I had almost forgotten about it, until I remembered that the weekend Reed was born was the one weekend my mom said that he couldn't be born. She and my dad were the only ones setting up the dog show (the woman who runs the club is older with some health issues) and needed to be there. So apparently, Reed obliged by being born early enough that they could take a detour down to Orange County and visit before the show started.
My parents came through with the swag- they gave Drake an awesome pirate ship, which we got second hand. So no actual pirates came with it. But it's a $35 ship that she got for a steal. And the boys love it. They've been raising and lowering the sails all day. Drake's still trying to get Reed to call him Captain.
Since it was Reed's birthday, he got presents, too. He got some foam building blocks, a wooden tool box and tool set (which he's in love with- he's fixing a door knob as I type this), and a neat circular puzzle. The puzzle itself is made up of 5 pie shaped pieces- it doesn't matter which order you lock them into. But each has a removable piece on each that has a bear riding some form of transportation. And those are unique to the piece. And in the center fits a sun. Drake's claimed the puzzle as his, since Reed's not good with puzzles yet. But at least it's being enjoyed.
