Taking things too seriously.
Mar. 28th, 2009 05:20 pmI mentioned some time ago that I was obsessed with a game on Facebook called King (or Queen) of the World. It's a mostly real time war game- where you can join alliances, gain land and vie for the title of king of the world. As is typical for me, I got sucked into the game when given the chance to organize things.
It was too much like real work (it was real work) and I should have taken that as a sign that things were not going to turn out well.
At any rate, I realized I didn't much appreciate the person running the alliance I'd spent all this time helping to build. He was (is, actually) silvertongued, duplicitous... and basically had ensured our alliance would fail because of his stupidity.
I took part in an honest to goodness coup, to save it. Only... things went wrong. People I considered friends, who took the game far too seriously, re-evaluated our friendship because of my involvement.
...honestly, it's a game. Things happen. It might not always make you happy, but it's a game. If you land on my space in Monopoly and have to pay rent plus the hotel fee, does that mean I'm out to get you? Nope. I'm just playing the game.
Life is too strange to take seriously all the time. And honestly, with so much sadness out there- it always helps to remember that you need to find the joy where you can. Find the silliness where you can. And to never think that something so trivial as a game matters in the grand scheme of things.
Next: I plug back into Warcraft and resume blogging about that! Because Warcraft is serious business! (Yes, that was a joke)
