Our 44th President
Jan. 20th, 2009 11:19 amI watched the inauguration in the living room- in PIP mode with Thomas the Tank Engine playing alongside it. To hear it, I watched the streaming video from CNN.com. To have my facebook friends list roll alongside it was interesting. And hilarious (one should always have at least a dozen former Jungle Cruise skippers as friends on facebook).
My boys were there. While they were watching Thomas most of the time, I know that they watched parts of it. Reed stopped playing to listen to Aretha Franklin sing, and Drake announced any time that someone started to talk. (Aretha Franklin was "the lady with the bow", and President Obama was "the man with his hand up")
There was a moment, when the cameras were on Obama as he was waiting to come out and be announced. He was walking, with a look on his face. One I've seen on countless actors, and little kids faces... he was serious. At least, he was trying to be. His eyes were beaming with excitment, and he was doing everything he could to keep a stoic look on his face. The corners of his lips were tugging up because you could tell he just wanted to smile.
And I loved that. It was as real and genuine a moment as you can get in politics.
I also love how gracious and thoughtful our new first family is- Michelle Obama giving Laura Bush a pen and journal to help her write her memoirs. Always nice to have considerate people in charge.
